Tonight, Tonight analyzed

Song #5: Tonight, Tonight by The Smashing Pumpkins

Time is never time at all
you can never leave without leaving
a piece of youth.
and our lives are forever changed.
we will never be the same.
the more you change the less you feel.
(This is a very prophetic statement.  it's saying that time is a trick; it doesn't ever stop changing and the minute you feel comfortable, time changes again.  and if too much time goes by it's easy to forget who you used to be and how you got here).

believe, believe in me, believe.
believe that life can change.
that you're not stuck in vain.
we're not the same, we're different
tonight, tonight.
so bright, tonight.
(this guy wants whoever he's writing about to know that it gets better, that life can change and get better and that you don't have to always feel like you're going nowhere.  and yeah growing up can be scary but it doesn't have to be bad.)

And now you're never sure.
but you're sure you could be right.
if you held yourself up to the light.
and the embers never fade in
your city by the lake.
the place where you were born.
(i feel like this is a person message to the subject of this song.  if you just keep yourself in the light, in positivity, then you will never lose that feeling of belonging and home).

Believe, believe in me, believe.
believe in the resolute urgency of now.
and if you believe there's not a chance tonight
tonight, so bright.
tonight.
(tonight is just one night of bringing her back to the present moment in time so she can experience joy and happiness in the moment.  there's so much power in the now, it's really the only time we all have to mold and shape our lives.)

we'll crucify the insincere tonight
we'll make things right, we'll feel it all tonight
we'll find a way to offer up the night tonight
the indescribable moments of your life tonight
the impossible is possible tonight
believe in me as i believe in you, tonight.
(this is basically a message for the writer and the subject.  no matter what happens, tonight is theirs alone and they don't have anyone or anything to be afraid of.  and also another rememberance for finding the joy in every moment of life.)

Ultimately, i picked this song because i was watching something on TV and i heard the first couple of lines and thought those lyrics were so beautiful that i had to include it in this project.  this song has been out for a very long time but i never knew all of the words.  but i think it's so beautiful and the message is so true: time makes things better but also parts of a person can be forgotten so just enjoy the present as it's the only time a person can be sure of.  and when you look back on your life, you're going to remember those parts the most, the parts that truly touched your soul and you felt thankful to be a part of because it helped you on your journey through life.
